Overlook Horizon in Rochester, NY will be launching our OLHZN-7 "Duplicity" capsule on Monday, July 17. Estimated time of launch is around 21:30 UTC / 5:30pm EDT.
The launch will take place in Canandaigua, NY (outside of Rochester) at Canandaigua Academy (High School). We expect the balloon to reach close to 33 km altitude and land around 30 km east of the launch area. Total flight time should be around 2.75 hours. The launch will be live-streaming on YouTube and Facebook beginning sometime after 20:30 UTC / 4:30pm EDT.
This flight is focused on capturing video of the balloon burst event and will feature 3 onboard cameras. All of them will be Lightdow LD4000 action cameras that we lovingly call "Faux-Pros"
The capsule will contain a APRS and RTTY tracker which will transmit position, velocity, system and additional sensor data (temperatures & pressure).
The chase car will be using an SDR & laptop to receive the RTTY transmissions, primarily, with the capability to read and decode the APRS as well.
The tracker was made using the Arduino Mega 2560, a U-Blox NEO-6M with Active antenna, a BMP180 pressure sensor, 2 DS18B20 temperature sensors and a Radiometrix HX1 transmitter. Tracker uses our custom designed circuit board and a 7.4V / 3400mAH Li-Ion battery pack. The Lightdow cameras will be powered by 3 Li-Ion external battery packs, each with 3.7V / 3400mAH & boosted to 5V using an Adafruit PowerBoost.
