Hi! We are UPRA Team from Hungary and I would like to share an update of our development process.
We have four main modules in our telemetry system. The whole flight computer is developed by our team. Right now we have already finished the hardware of the On-Board Computer(OBC), Communicaton Module(COM) and the Sensor-network and Measurement Unit(SNW). These units connect via the internal bus which is CAN-BUS.
The On-Board Computer is the main control unit of our flight computer. It provides the system time to synchronize the functions. Also the OBC handles the GPS module parsing the NMEA sentences getting longitue, latitude and altitude data.
The On-Board Computer has an internal camera connected which built around an OV9655 camera-chip. We take pictures that can be sent back via the COM module during flight.
The pictures and telemetry log are stored on an SD-card.
The OBC is based on STM32F407xxx ARM microcontroller that has all the necessary peripherals control the camera, SD-card, GPS and CAN-BUS. Also has a built in RTC module for the system time.
Our communication module is based on an Si4464 chip. We are not only streaming the telemetry data back to the groundstation but also have an uplink so we can send commands to the payload. Thanks to the two way communication we can configure and start experiments during flight.
The Sensor and Measurement Unit store the raw measurement data on an SD-Card and preprocess the data to be more suitable for the telemetry messages. It has an A/D converter to connect analogue sensors like temperature and humidity sensors.
The Electrical Power System is a simple switched-mode powersupply right now. We use alkaline batteries that has proved its suitability for our needs.
Later we are planning to upgrade the EPS to monitor the sub-units and provide diagnostic data during flight.
We have already built our insulation capsule. It has an aluminium cage for support sensors and experiments to be attached to our probe.
We use styrofoam as our main insulation. We also added an MLI coat for extra protection. Every pice of the probe is designed and built by our team.
Current development in progress
Right now we are working on the embedded software. Each unit has its own firmware and communicate via the system bus. We are looking forward the system integration soon and then we are going to run some intensive testing. We will test in climate chamber and do some long range communication tests too.
