Dear all stratospheric enthusiasts,
we would like to use this post to introduce our App Stratoflights with its helpful tools to support you in your mission to the edge of space.
Our Stratoflights App is for free and available for iOS and Android. The App contains not only a comprehensive tutorial with lots of tips and tricks but also several reliable tools which we have used in the last years:
Flight prediction: If you want to know the flight path of your weather balloon you can use this tool. You only have to choose your position, ascend and descend rate, burst altitude and this tool calculates a reliable path for your flight so that you can get a first impression of the flight direction, flight distance and the possible landing area of your stratospheric capsule.
Helium calculator: to fill your weather balloon with the correct amount of helium/ balloon gas you have to calculate it. Therefore we have developed our own formula with our experiences of 10 years of HAB and hundreds of flights all over Europe. You only have to choose your weather balloon type and have to decide if you want to calculate the amount for a specific ascend rate or a maximum altitude. In combination with a pressure reducer it is the best way for an accurate filling and succesful mission.
Weather forecast: It is important to know how the weather will be at your launch. In Germany and other European countries it is important that the sky is not completely covered by clouds (max. 50%). This tool gives you a weather forecast with a recommendation if you can launch your balloon.
Checklist: Using a checklist does not sound like necessary. From our experience of our customers, we can say that it is helpful to have an overview of all the steps to avoid careless mistakes. In our experience, errors such as turning on the camera or the Batterypacks are among the most mistakes due to the excitement on the starting day. Our checklist helps to follow a to-do-list and to ensure that you don't forget any equipment.
Hope you like our App. If you have some questions or some tools you also would like to have implemented please let us know!
