Hi everyone and happy new year!
It’s been a while, but we’re now officially launching GSBC 2016 to take place from April 11th to May 9th, 2016. We’re excited to build off the success of GSBC 2015, where 125 teams flew from 27 countries (see more info here). We have some awesome updates for the new year and we really hope you’ll join us and show the world what you can do!
Changes to the Forum and Website
Moving forward, we really want the forum to become the central hub for the community where people go for information and to share their questions and experiences with others. To this end, we moved the majority of the content from the website to the forum and reorganized the forum categories to improve ease of use.
You’ll now find that the tutorials page on the website points to individual topics on the forum under the Tutorials category, where anyone can comment to ask for more information or to share their opinion. The Launch Info and Results category should be used for all info on launches throughout the year, not just limited to the GSBC timeframe. Information on challenge categories and previous winners is now located under the Challenges and Previous Results category, while the educators page has been replaced by the Education category. We’ll let you sift through all the other changes, but please let us know what feedback you have so that we can continue to improve!
Please, please, please share information on your HAB activities on the forum along with any cool news you come across that other teams might enjoy learning! We want to hear what you have to say!
Veteran Data and Signing up for GSBC 2016
We want to recognize those people that flew in GSBC 2014 and 2015 and highlight those teams on the map, so we’ve added veteran data to all teams that can be updated with whether a team flew previously or intends to fly again in 2016. Please check your own team page and ensure that your data is updated! If it’s unclear how to do this, please let us know.
As always, people should head to the sign up page or to the create team page on the website to join the GSBC or create a new team.
Challenges and Prices
Head to the Challenges and Previous Results category for information on this year’s challenge prizes and rules – we will announce prize information closer to the challenge time period, but please check out the categories and get excited!
We love feedback!
As always, if you have any questions or feedback, we would love to hear it – send us a note through the contact us form on the website, send us an email, or post on the forum and we’ll be sure to get back to you.
Don’t forget to join us on social media – Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn – and we are incredibly excited to see what everyone does to make GSBC 2016 the best year yet!
PS We are sorry for the late announcement for GSBC 2016 – if you’re curious what kept us, it’s because the majority of the leadership team was working on the successful launch and landing of the last SpaceX Falcon 9 mission, a great success for the global space industry - check out the video:
